The International University of Art of Florence began its activity in 1970, after the tragic experiences of the floods in Florence and Venice.

The institution, the only one of its kind in the world, has as its purpose:

to teach the measures rendered necessary by the ecological crisis which assails all the countries of the world and which threatens to destroy or severely damage the environment, the monuments, and the works of art of humanity's hystoric past of contemporary civilization;

to use the most modern means offered by scientific and technological development for the understanding, conservation and restoration of our artistic and cultural assets, and for their active integration into the culture of our time.
