FLORENCE has long been known as a Capital of Culture and a City of Art and Restoration and it is home to the largest percentage of organisations, companies, publishing houses, schools and restorers in Italy and in the world.
The Opificio delle Pietre Dure and various other important institutions have always attracted international notice. The catchment area of the province of Florence alone will guarantee a higher number of participants at the event than any other recorded figure for similar occasions. The city deserves its own International Fair with the support of the whole of Tuscany.

The venue of the Fair – The Fortezza da Basso has always been the main venue of the exhibition center in Florence since 1967 and it is strategically located in the historic city centre. It is not far on foot from the main sites and monuments in Florence and the locations provided by our partners for conferences, round tables, seminars and courses.

International Participation - The Florence Art and Restoration Fair has the aim of becoming an international forum right from its very first occurrence. The presence of these organisations will add to the variety of debates and facilitate the comparison of techniques in conservation, research and technological innovation.

Training - Florence is the home of the School of the Opificio delle Pietre Dure. A high number of national and international institutions can be found in Florence with thousands of students attending courses every month in Italian, art and restoration. The participation of some of the best art and restoration schools in Europe at the Fair, for whom a special pavilion has been set aside, will encourage the coming together of young people who will become the artists and professional restorers of tomorrow. For thousands of other graduates the Fair will also provide the opportunity to return to Florence and other Italian cities where they learned their artistic skills and restoration techniques and where they carried out their work experience. For them it will be a chance to share their experiences, plan future exchanges and come into contact with companies and people working in the sector. During the Fair various organisations will set up seminars and specialised workshops to consolidate Florence’s reputation as a capital of “know-how” at the highest level.

The value of our partners – The Fair is being organised by ISTUR CHT (a no-profit association founded in 2000), but all the events are being held in partnership with Florentine companies and organisations whose worth is essential to the project. In actual fact, each partner will contribute autonomously with technical and cultural initiatives at the Fortezza da Basso and also at their own premises in Florence. The Fair, therefore, is not just an event for people working in the sector. It is also for the wider international public who will be able to visit the exhibition stands and choose from a calendar bursting with events, demonstrations, conferences, functions, award ceremonies, workshops, lessons, shows and exhibitions by experts and artists etc. Everything is being organised either at the Fair or in town involving the highest number possible of cultural and other pertinent organisations and associations to establish a real Week of Restoration.

The Technical-Scientific Committee – This will be an indispensable guide and critical conscience for all the scientific, technical and cultural events (exhibitions, seminars, workshops etc.) being held at the Fair. The Fair is privileged to have the support of all the Florentine Superintendencies and illustrious figures from the sector. The Technical-Scientific Committee is a unique element of the Fair which distinguishes it from other events of this kind but above all it will provide support and prestige for exhibitors and visitors so that they can become part of an exclusive event with the highest possible technical, scientific and cultural standards(http://www.salonerestaurofirenze.org/eng/comitato.asp)

Participating in the Fair does not just mean being part of a large international showcase of art and restoration, it also means joining forces create a new direction for the future of conservation, restoration and promotion of artistic, cultural and environmental heritage.

With the support of: Ministero dei Beni e delle Attività Culturali, Regione Toscana, CNR Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Comune di Firenze, Provincia di Firenze, Camera di Commercio di Firenze, Soprintendenze Fiorentine.
