A few years after the sensational discovery of the two circles orientalizing of Sodo, the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Tuscany and Cortona MAEC exhibit for the first time to the public the second circle funeral kits (over 150 pieces related to the end of the seventh century BC ), and a series of objects previously never seen which was found at the archaeological sites in the area (the Roman villa of Ossaia, the princely palace of Fossa del Lupo) as well as a large number of loans from the National Archaeological Museum of Florence. The exhibition, accompanied by a catalogue, intend to communicate in advance the visitor all the stages of the "assembly line", ranging from archaeological excavations to the recovery of materials, from preliminary diagnostic analyses to the actual restoration, to the study and the exhibition that anticipates the "museum to come."
In particular, the focus of the event is the world of restoration, the report sets out the principles and the evolution in time (from ancient to modern methodologies), issues with respect to the materials covered by the conservation works (ceramics, metals, wood, glass, bone), using absolute novelty in the exhibition, the artefacts found in recent excavations presented at various stages of recovery, revealing the slow and patient work of those behind the scenes.
The presentation of many previously unknown finds course is an opportunity to shed light on one of the earliest phases of the territory of Cortona, characterized by the culture of funerary circles, who shortly before the flowering of the principles, well expressed by the tombs known locally the name of "meloni", of which the most important example is the tumulo II of Sodo, dating of the beginning of the sixth century BC. The spirit that animates the exhibition aims to bring out, in a timely manner, the educational aspect of problems, making use of 3D technologies, designs and reconstructive dioramas, videos and movies, which can be supported by editorial tools and workshops specifically designed for the event.
