A day for the Opificio, from the old masters to the current activities of training and research
Opificio delle Pietre Dure e Laboratori di Restauro
Friday, November 9 from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. - Sala Secco Suardo
The day's work aims to give an overview of the many activities of the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, which has its hub in the restoration of many acknowledged masterpieces as the Grande Croce by Giotto in the church of Ognissanti, the Porta del Paradiso by Lorenzo Ghiberti or the silver altar of the Baptistery of San Giovanni, but that every day is expressed in the work carried out by eleven restoration laboratories to which has been added recently, the laboratory of conservation of contemporary art.
Every restoration work, from the most complex to the most seemingly simple, is based on the fundamental work carried out by the sectors involved in research and documentation. Finally, it should report the activity of the Higher Training School in the preparation of young restorers.
