The aim of this day conference is to extract from the history of the ceremonial dishes the three main types of construction and materials which can better classify and identify them, focusing in particular the charity dishes that will be treated in a more exhausting way.
The technical meeting focuses the three class of materials apparently very similar among them: charity dishes, ceremonial and parade dishes.
The technical meeting focuses the three class of materials apparently very similar among them: charity dishes, ceremonial and parade dishes. The main differences in terms of construction, materials and symbology will be clearly showed. The charity dishes, will be presented with reference to the main production centres (Germany, Flanders, Italia, France and Spain), their patronage and their chronological sequence until their final use as a popular instrument made of them in Barbagia (Sardinia).
The parade dishes will be presented with reference to their main typologies, clear sign of richness and political valence, see for example at the 19th century French dishes. The parade dishes will also be presented with reference to their final primary and secondary use, as in Venice where they were used as a dish for serving the fried little fishes. A useful bibliography will be given on request after the conference.
