Study cases, new conservative researches, methodologies and problems in the Florentine Cultural Heritage
Ufficio e Laboratorio Restauri della Soprintendenza Speciale per il Patrimonio Storico, Artistico ed Etnoantropologico per il Polo Museale della Città di Firenze
Saturday, November 10, from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. - Sala Secco Suardo
Cavaniglia Pavilion, Fortezza da Basso, Florence
The study day is divided in two parts: the first one is related to the activity of two operating departments in the internal Laboratory of restoration of the Superintendence – the first one of restoration of paintings and sculptures of and / or plastic - and the second one of restoration of the Superintendence artistic, historical and architectural artworks, performed by private restorers under the direction or the general supervision of the Superintendence Office.
The first section, focused only on two topics, is devoted to the illustration of a restoration emblematic for technical, historical and artistic presentation of methodological reflections in addressing the problems of restoration works on special materials, such as for example gesso artefacts.
The illustration of the selected case is made through a series of specific actions made by all those people - historians, restorers, diagnostics, scientists - who have carried out, before and during the conservation work, researches, studies and surveys on a masterpiece of particular importance - such as the Trittico di san Pietro Martire by Beato Angelico - with the intention to bring to light the doubts, the debate and the criteria that preceded the choices and offer food for thought in other similar cases.
The second part of the day will offer, instead, a broad panorama of different series of works and issues that the Superintendence usually faces in its relationship with private restorers, which push, to continually update the methodologies to obtain the most proper conservative result. In the various speeches there are also some reports concerning indirectly the movable heritage, as aimed at the preservation of the "containers" as museums or monuments, whose maintenance and functionality is a prerequisite for the protection of the remaining cultural heritage assets.
