The restoration of the Misericordia altarpiece by Giovanni Antonio De Sacchis (called the Pordenone)
Restauro e Conservazione di Opere d'Arte di Pordenone
Training Area - Saturday November 13- from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.
The restoration process on the “Pala della Misericordia”, as well as preserving the painting state of deterioration, was carried out in order to protect and recover the origin legibility characteristic. Thanks to the conservation treatment it was also possible to display the painting in the exhibition “Bellini, Giorgione, Titian and the Renaissance of Venetian Painting”, which was held at the National Gallery of Art of Washington. During the conference the speaker will detail the whole intervention of restoration. After the preliminary diagnostic scientific analyses (X ray imaging, FTIR analyses, UV Fluorescence, Stratigraphy), the restoration process included the chemical cleaning of the pictorial surface, the consolidation of the textile support by means of a series of techniques following the minimum intervention methodology and the painting tensioning on an “harmonic” stretcher recently created. The final aesthetic result was obtained by using the neutral in painting techniques.
Speaker: Valentina Scuccato.
