The restoration of a frame from the XVII century: structural adjustment and aesthetic recovery
Baldassin Restorations and Antiques
Training Area - Saturday November 13- from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The large scale tabernacle frame coming from the church of Ss. Quirico e Giulitta in Valleriana, Pistoia, appeared in bad deterioration conditions due to climatic, biologic and human causes and showed numerous intervention case histories very useful for describing the main restoration techniques of gilt and polychrome artefacts. The conservation treatment started with a structural reconstruction and consolidation of the wooden parts. The subsequent treatments were carried out for recovering the origin legibility of the artwork damaged by the dust and the steam deposits caused by the candles burning and by the former restoration treatments.
Speaker: Elisa Longinotti.
