The restoration of the Annunciation from the church of S. Stefano a Lucciano, Quarrata (Pistoia)

The large scale oil on canvas 18th century painting depicting the “Annunciation”, appeared in bad deterioration conditions. The appearance of the painting has altered by numerous over paintings, detachments and lacunae. The surface was covered by a dust deposit and by a lot of altered varnishes. The conservation treatment interested all the elements of the artwork structure: textile support, ground preparations and pictorial film. All the treatments were chosen in order to preserve the origin characteristics of the painting. For this reason the painting was tensioned on its original stretcher.
The mechanical cleaning treatment of the surface and the pictorial in painting permitted us to recover the origin legibility of the painting, emphasizing the technical and stylistic execution characteristics.
